Sketch 43: Queen's Staircase

My first painting on The Sketching Project is here, and a sneak peek into my (weekend) life here in the Bahamas with it!

Everyone drives everywhere here in Nassau. But, as it turns out, you need to cycle to experience the true atmosphere of the Bahamian capital! That's why we set out on an adventurous cycle together with our lovely guide. We tasted local rum at John Watling's Distillery, tasted chocolates at Graycliff Chocolatier, drank local wine and tasted Conch Salad (a local specialty) while sipping on Bahamian beer on the beach.

Inspired by our visit to the National Art Gallery of The Bahamas, I was motivated to paint what I saw during a 'sip and paint' session we signed up for with my friends. I chose to

depict Queen's Staircase, which seems to be THE landmark of Nassau.

A valuable lesson I learnt on that day is that spending evenings with a brush in one hand, a glass of great red wine in another while laughing with your friends is actually much better than Netflix series or working late at night. Who would have guessed?
