Yesterday, I actually took the time to sit down and sketch in a park by the river. What convinced me to pause and stay was this lady, whom I saw coming out of her flat, with a pillow in her hands. She walked into the park, placed the pillow onto a bench, sat down and rested. It was a warm September afternoon, people were riding bikes, kids were playing and she seemed to prefer the outdoors to spending her afternoon locked inside her apartment. I suspect this was not the first time she has done that, it seemed to me as if this was a sacred ritual, one she carries out whenever the weather permits. And I felt blessed, as if all my ideas about 'active public spaces for all' came true, at this place, at this time.
