...And I am on my way once again. I travelled from Oxford, UK to Brno, Czechia. I took trains, walked, was on a plane and finished off with a car ride. I saw public spaces of all sorts. One of the things they had in common?
Smokers.
Wherever I seemed to go, there was a large portion of public spaces dominated by clusters of people with their cigarettes. In most parts of the world, smoking is one of the activities one encounters being out in the streets.
In the case of UK train stations and airports, there are designated areas where you can light one up. You can smell them from far away, making it easier for me to avoid them. But I was lucky to go past a long strip of a wall with smokers lining one next to each other, exiting my sketching spirit. All differences seemed to disappear with the cigarettes in their hand. Although I am not a particular fan of smoking in public spaces, I had to admit: these people need so little to form a community wherever they go.
